Dreaded terrorist gunned down in Assam
Security forces on Monday gunned down one self-styled area commander of the Karbi People’s Liberation Tigers (KPLT) in Karbi Anglong district on Sunday night, thus inflicting a severe blow to the terrorist group, a press release issued by the Defence PRO here said.
It said the terrorist, identified as Seme Kro, was killed during an encounter that took place when security forces had mounted a joint operation in a forest area near Bhelughat in the hill district. The joint operation was conducted by the Army and Assam Police. Security forces also recovered one 7.65mm pistol with a magazine, one live round of ammunition and some incriminatory documents from the spot.
In another operation, a joint team of Army and Assam Police apprehended one militant belonging to the National Santhal Liberation Army (NSLA) on Sunday night from Silaimatha in Kokrajhar district. The militantt was identified as Sarkar Hasda. One 7.65 mm pistol was recovered from his possession, the press release said.
Meanwhile, Lt Gen Sarath Chand, GOC of the Tezpur-based Four Corps of the Army on Monday visited Kokrajhar and reviewed the on-going operations against the NDFB(S). The Four Corps GOC is also the operational chief of the Unifed Command that is engaged in counter-insurgency operations in Assam.
