Girls from militant stronghold Tral top J&K Class X exam
SRINAGAR, MAY 19
Girls outshone boys in Class X exam of J&K State Board of School Education, with 17 girls clinching the first seven positions.
While Anika Shabir (15), a student of a little-known Hajahad Public School in south Kashmir‘s Awantipora, topped the table, her “best friend” and classmate Shaheera clinched the second spot. Both are residents of Dadsara village in Tral which is a militant stronghold.
“I am very happy but I was expecting the top position. The joy is doubled to see girls taking the top honours,” said Anika. Her father Shabir Ahmad is a works supervisor in J&K Project Construction Corporation and mother Fareeda Akhtar is a health worker. “I have studied without taking tuition from outside school. If I am topper today, it is because of my family and school,” Anika added.
This is very rare in the valley that the little-known schools have secured the top positions in the Class X exam leaving behind the top missionary schools. It is for the first time that Hajahad Public School has claimed the top position.
