Jayalalithaa likely to return as Tamil Nadu CM soon
AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa.
Now that the AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa is all set to be re-throned as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 23rd, if the preparations at her residence is to be believed, calculated moves are being set in motion ahead of the procedure.
A meeting of AIADMK MLAs would take place at the party headquarters on May 22, 7am, the purpose of which would be to pass a resolution electing her as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The legislative party meeting, which is likely to get over in two hours, comes just a little than a week after she got acquittal in the disproportionate asset case she was facing.
According to sources close to the Poes Garden, Jayalalithaa is unlikely to attend the MLAs meeting on Friday morning on May 22.
From the sources, her latest schedule for Saturday and Friday, when she is going to make the first public appearance after eight months, reads like this.
May 22, 1.15pm: She will leave Poes Garden residence to drive to Raj Bhavan to meet K Rosaiah, the governor of Tamil Nadu.
1.30pm: The resolution electing her as the Chief Minister would be handed over to the governor. The meeting of Jayalalithaa with the governor is expected to last for not more than 20 minutes.
2pm: Her convoy will reach the memorial of M G Ramachandran, former Chief Minister and her mentor, on Marina beach to garland his statue, and she also is to garland statues of DMK founder C N Annadurai, MGR’s mentor, and Periyar E V Ramasamy, mentor of Annadurai and the leader of self-respect movement, who founded Dravida Kazhagam (DK) party.
May 23, after 10.30am (9.30am to 10.30am considered inauspicious): She reaches the centenary hall of the University of Madras, one of her favourite venues in Chennai, where she would be sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for the fifth time. Most likely, R Thandavan, Vice Chancellor of the university, who is also a card holding member of her party and one who acted in AIADMK’s propaganda movies during MGR’s period, will be receiving her at the university campus.
After the swearing-in ceremony, she would head to the state secretariat, hardly 2kms from the university campus. She would sign three crucial files on Saturday, including one on transgenders and other on women.
A press meeting is also being planned on the same day evening, for which the time and venue is not yet finalised.
