Air India staff assault: Don’t let Gaikwad onboard unless he tenders ‘unconditional apology’, says Cabin Crew Association
Though Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad who allegedly assaulted an Air India employee, wrote a letter to Union Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju expressing ‘regret’ over the ‘unfortunate incident’, the All India Cabin Crew Association (AICCA) said that the MP must not be allowed to fly till he offers an ‘unconditional apology’
Coming out in support of Air India, AICCA has written a letter to the airline stressing on an unconditional apology by Gaikwad, reported ANI.
“Must not let Ravindra Gaikwad onboard unless he tenders unconditional apology to Air India employees and undertakes in writing to abide by all norms,” AICCA said.
“Gaikwad is and will continue to be risk to flight safety and the government must think hard about letting him back on flight,” the letter said
Gaikwad, who attended the Parliament proceedings on Thursday for the first time since the incident played a victim, insisting he had only retaliated against provocation.
However, in a letter to Gajapthi Raju, the MP said, “It could have been no one’s intention to have let the situation aggravate to the level that it eventually did. While the on-going investigation will bring out the factual sequence of events to fix responsibility, this incident may kindly not be seen as a reason for likely recurrence of such an event in future also.”
The Shiv Sena threatened to boycott the upcoming NDA meeting if the ruling dispensation failed to resolve the matter by April 10.
“We will not attend the NDA meeting on April 10 if the travel ban on Gaikwad is not revoked,” Raut said, noting that this is an “instruction from party chief Uddhav Thackeray”.
The party also sought to justify its protest in the Lok Sabha.
“Do you think the way our MP was heckled (by Air India staff) was justified?” Raut asked, while another party MP Anandrao Adsul said, “we just gheraoed the minister”.
Raut also said Raju’s reply in the House on the issue was “unsatisfactory”.
