After MLC Kapil Patil, union leader Shashank Rao joins Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) in Maharashtra
Prominent union leader of Mumbai, Shashank Rao, who has been backed by NCP so far, joined Nitish Kumar’s party Janata Dal (United) on Monday. He was inducted in the party in the presence of JD(U) senior leader Shyam Rajak, who is camping in Maharashtra ahead of the Bihar Chief Minister’s public rally in Mumbai on April 22.
Rao heads labour unions of BMC, BEST, taxi and rickshaw drivers, and hawkers, and claims to represent over 2.5 lakh workers in the commercial capital. Rao has been appointed as JDU (Mumbai convener).
Around 10 days ago, Kapil Patil Member of Legislative Council (MLC) of Maharashtra had also joined JD(U) after merging his party Lok Bharti with the Bihar based party. Patil represents the teachers’ constituency. He is now officially a JD(U) MLC and also the convener of JDU in Maharashtra.
Kumar will hold the party’s first political conference in Maharashtra on April 22 at NSE grounds during which the state unit of Janata Dal (United) will be launched.
