Sangam Vihar man dies after falling into 7-foot pit
A 30-year-old man died after he fell into a seven-foot deep pit allegedly dug by BSES to lay cables for installing street lamps in Sangam Vihar late on Friday night. The victim was discovered by a passerby on Saturday morning who saw him lying upside down in the ditch and raised an alarm. With the help of some locals, the man was pulled out from the pit and rushed to Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital in Malviya Nagar, where he was declared dead on arrival.
The deceased was identified as Ravi Kumar, who used to work as a driver in a private firm in Saket. He is survived by his parents, wife, and two sons aged six and four, who live in L-block in Sangam Vihar.
The police said that Kumar was returning home from work when he accidentally fell into the pit which was neither covered nor was it bearing any barricade or warning sign. “The area was dark which could be the reason that the victim could not detect the pit. He fell on his head and since there was no one around at that time, it went undetected and he could not be rescued,” a police officer said.
