Ban on sale of BS-III vehicles not applicable to farm, construction equipment: SC
The ban on the sale of Bharat Stage-III (BS-III) vehicles would not be applicable to farm and construction equipment, the Supreme Court said.
ANI, said in a tweet, “Supreme Court says ban on sale & registration of BS-III vehicles not applicable to equipment used for farming & construction.”
The SC had banned the sale and registration of any new BS-III vehicles in the country as it prompted the shift to Bharat Stage-IV (BS-IV) emission norms from April 1.
On March 31, a bench of Justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta decided to take the ‘drastic’ step saying that BS-III vehicles could aggravate the already deteriorating air quality in the country and such a step was needed to handle the menace of pollution.
At the time, there was an inventory of about 8 lakh unsold BS-III vehicles with vehicles dealers across the country.
