Guess who’s back: Squad for Champions Trophy sees Rohit Sharma, Mohammad Shami back in business
Rohit Sharma, Mohammad Shami, and R Ashwin make a comeback for the upcoming Champions Trophy as Team India gets ready to defend the title.
On Monday, chief selector MSK Prasad announced the 15-men squad at a press conference in Mumbai.
Rohit Sharma has last played an ODI in October 2016 and Shami’s time away extends to World Cup in 2015 in Australia and New Zealand.
Rohit, after recovering from a thigh injury he sustained during the Test series against England last year, has replaced opener K L Rahul, who has been laid low by a shoulder injury.
Manish Pandey has been drafted in as an extra batsman in the 15-member squad, to be led by Virat Kohli.
India’s star spinner R Ashwin is currently recovering from a sports hernia but selectors expect him to get back in form before the tournament begins on June 1 in England and Wales.
Harbhajan Singh and Gautam Gambhir failed to make the cut, but Yuvraj Singh is among the chosen team.
