Petrol pumps to stay open as strike deferred
In a huge respite for Mumbaikars and people across Maharashtra, the Federation of All Maharashtra Petrol Dealers Association (FAMPEDA) has decided to defer their agitation, which was supposed to begin from Sunday.
The petrol dealers had last week announced a ‘Work to Rule’ agitation under which the fuel pumps including CNG dispensing stations would remain shut on Sundays beginning May 14. After this, the pumps were to be operational only in one shift (9 am to 6 pm).
“We never wanted to cause any inconvenience to people but there was no choice left for us. However, seeing our stand, the three oil companies – Bharat Petroleum, Indian Oil and Hindustan Petroleum – decided to diffuse the situation and decided to call for a meeting with the dealers on May 17,” said Ravi Shinde, President of Petrol Dealers’ Association, adding that post which the dealers decided to defer their agitation.
However, Shinde clarified that the next course of action by them will depend on the outcome of the meeting.
The main grouse of the petrol dealers was the losses they had been incurring due to rising overheads and oil companies not revising the dealers’ commission despite promises and even signing an agreement.
