Batla House caretaker discharged
Accused of forgery and cheating, Abdul Rehman, the caretaker of Batla house, where two alleged operatives of the Indian Mujahideen (IM) were killed in an encounter in 2008, was discharged by a city court on Tuesday.
Mohsin Nissar, owner of flat no. L-18 in the Batla House locality, accused Rehman, a stenographer in Ghaziabad of forging his signature on a lease deed and renting out the flat to two suspected terrorists.
Representing Rehman, advocate MS Khan submitted that the police had failed to produce the original lease deed — a crucial piece of evidence, that was allegedly forged by Rehman. Khan added that forensic reports could not be given since the police failed to give the lab the original rent agreement.
“The order for framing of charge against Rehman for offence under section 420 (cheating) Indian Penal Code is not sustainable in the eyes of law,” the court said passing its order on a revision petition filed by Rehman.
