Mamata Banerjee blames demonetization for weak GDP figures, lashes out at Modi govt
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tongue lashed the Central government over the dip in GDP in the fourth quarter terming it as a result of demonetization decision of the government.
“Within a week of demonetization, I was the first one to react saying that the GDP per cent will fall by two per cent and look what happens after six months. Many have lost their jobs. Before demonetization we were promised Rs 15 lakh in every account but that never happened,” Mamata said at a public meeting at Tarakeswar in Hooghly district, on Thursday.
According to a data released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) on Wednesday, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the January-March quarter grew at the slowest pace in at least four quarters at 6.1 per cent as against a 7.0 per cent growth in October-December.
Earlier on Thursday she had taken to the social media to come down heavily at the Centre. ‘My apprehension is now proven to be true. The Q4 GDP figure this fiscal has come down to 6.1%.
