Petition committee pulls up PWD for not checking drains
The petition committee of the Delhi Assembly on Friday visited various areas in Delhi to ensure that desilting is completed in the areas before the onset of monsoon.
Headed by Greater Kailash legislator Saurbah Bharadwaj, the committee visited the Mehrauli-Badarpur road near Saket and found massive waterlogging in the areas.
Pulling up local bodies and officials from the Public Works Department (PWD), Bharadwaj said, “On Thursday, MCD has declared 100 per cent desilting in the L-G’s meeting. And when we inspected the areas on Friday, the Petition Committee found the main MCD drains jam-packed with silt.”
The petitions committee had also received complaints that PWD and the municipal corporations were slack in desilting drains which would result in waterlogging across the city this monsoon as well.
Both matters, on PWD and health, had first been heard by the committee on last Thursday.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the committee on Monday, where the PWD secretary had been summoned to give an update on desilting.
According to officials, the committee is going to visit most of the areas in the Capital in the coming days.
