Indians seek funds to take part in Jewish Olympics
A team of 30 members of the Jewish community from India are all set to participate in the 20th Jewish Maccabiah Olympics next month, which will be held in Israel. However, the only thing holding them back is the lack of funds. The team is now on the lookout for a funding of $25,000 to participate in the Olympics.
The Jewish Maccabiah Olympics is held every four years in Israel. The word ‘Maccabiah’ means ‘to unite’. Sam Marshall, who heads the team, said, “Our Indian Jewish team has always come back with medals and we hope to win some medals this year as well. We will be participating in games like cricket, badminton, and swimming to name a few. In all, we require around $65,000 to participate. So far, we have managed to raise $35,000 through various corporate funding. We met the Indian Sports Minister, Vijay Goel, for a subsidy bearing in mind that we are a team of Indian sportspersons. The minister will look into the request and get back to us. We are also getting in touch with a few other corporates who have business relations with Israel.”
