Security forces watch out for lone wolf attackers
Carrying any sharp-edged item more than 4 inches long, such as a knife, a clip, or any metallic tool, will bar you from entering any of the Yoga Day celebration venues this year. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), along with the Delhi Police, are handling the security of access areas and other sensitive spots.
Senior officers told DNA that the stringent steps have become necessary in the wake of a recent rise in the number of lone wolf attacks across the world.
Three people in a van had mowed down pedestrians, gone on a stabbing spree, killed eight, and injured nearly 50 in the United Kingdom (UK) in June this year. It required nothing more than a car and a knife to bring the entire nation to a traumatic standstill. The incident has also triggered safety concerns in India, as terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) had recently issued a threat that similar attacks may be carried out in the country during the Yoga Day celebrations.
