Darjeeling unrest: 14 parties pass resolution to scrap GTA, indefinite strike to continue
An all-party meeting of 14 parties which met in Darjeeling have passed a resolution for scrapping of Gorkhaland Territorial Administration on Tuesday. The coalition of parties have put forward few demands like withdrawal of CRPF and restoration of internet services. They say the ball is now in the state government’s court to ensure normalcy returns to the hills.
On 22nd June the state government has called an all party meeting over the current unrest in the hills which will be presided over by the state home secretary. GJM has decided to stay away from the meeting. To decide on future course of action, GJM has conveyed all-party meeting of the relevant constituents on June 24.
Security forces were on high alert and internet services remained suspended, though no incidents of violence were reported in Darjeeling hills in the morning.
“The situation is still very tense. Since morning there has been no incident of violence but we are on high alert and prepared for any eventuality,” a senior police official said.
