UP: Give me sexual favours if you want your case to be probed: Cop tells gang-rape victim
A police officer from the Uttar Pradesh police, who is investigating a gang-rape case, has been accused of seeking sexual favours from the victim. The allegations further state that the cop shut the case when the woman refused.
Naaj (name changed), a 37-year-old woman from Rampur, was raped by two men on February 21 at gunpoint. She was given a lift by the two men, one of them known to her, when she was returning home after visiting a relative. They dropped her home but on finding no one there, gang-raped her at gunpoint.
The woman went to lodge a police complaint the next day at Rampur Ganj Police Station, but her complaint was not lodged. Later, she approached the local court and on its direction, an FIR was lodged after a week. Two men identified as Sattar Ahmed and Ameer Ahmed were booked under Sections 376 (D), 323, 506 of the IPC on charges of gang-rape, criminal intimidation etc. The victim’s statement was also recorded before a magistrate.
