Fake FB profile drives teen to suicide in Ahmedabad
It was a mindless act done for fun. A 17-year-old boy randomly picked a girl’s Facebook profile and used her photo and name to open a fake profile, but chose to key in his contact number. And that did him in. He was beaten up, made to apologise on video, which was then circulated among different WhatsApp groups. The humiliation drove him to suicide.
The deceased, Aakash Giri Goswami, was a student of LJ Polytechnic College. The police have arrested one person, Vishal Goswami, 19, and are on the lookout for the other accused. According to a complaint lodged by Mukesh Giri Goswami, a construction worker from Naroda, on June 23, Mukesh got a call from Goswami, asking for his son Aakash. Vishal told him Aakash had made a fake profile of a girl he knew, and warned that he would not spare him.
The next day, Goswami, Ruturaj Dhabi and an unidentified person went to Mukesh’s house. Unaware that the matter had not been sorted between them, Mukesh called out to Aakash
The three began beating him up. When his family tried to intervene, they were threatened. They made Aakash beg for forgiveness and recorded it on their phone and left.
