Kolkata: Train hits buffer at sealdah station, 21 injured
As many as 21 persons were injured when a local train in Kolkata failed to stop at the terminal station of Sealdah and managed to hit the buffer.
The female compartment of 34417 Up Sonarpur-Sealdah local train got derailed as the train which had set off at 9.20 am from Sonarpur and reached Sealdah station at 10.20 am failed to stop at the designated point of platform number 13 and hit the buffer and the guard wall.
The compartment which got derailed leaned against another stationary train at platform number 14. Rail officials said that within minutes paramedical staff reached the spot and helped the injured. It was found out that 16 (10 men and six women) were taken to the adjoining BR Singh Hospital and five at NRS Hosiptal. Sources at the BR Singh Hospital said that there were hand, chest and hand injury of those who had been brought in. X-rays and CT scans have been done on them and they have been kept under observation.
Train services at platform number 13 and 14 got disrupted and was normalised at 1.30 pm. Three pairs of EMU locals had to be cancelled. The derailed compartment was re-railed at 12.15 pm. Sources said …read more
