Remove Article 370 as an experiment: RSS

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Indresh Kumar on Wednesday sought that Article 370 be repealed on an “experimental” basis, lashing out at Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for her recent warning against any attempt to tinker with the Constitutional provision that grants special status to the state.

Any tinkering with the special status granted to the state would have serious ramifications, Mufti had said in New Delhi on July 28. “Chief Minister Mehbooba has said if any tinkering is done with Article 370, there will be no one to give shoulder to the tricolour. Let’s remove Article 370 on an experimental basis and see whether people unfurl the flag or burn it,” Kumar said in Chandigarh.

When asked if he was actually seeking a repeal of the Constitutional provision, Kumar told DNA, “I’m not saying this, but they have said this and I’m asking them to see what happens after an experiment is carried out.”

The RSS is the ideological mentor of the ruling BJP at the Centre. In J&K, Mehbooba’s PDP is in power with its alliance partner BJP.
