Ganesha dons alphabets, old coins in response to artistic call
It seems that every artist in the city is gripped by a creative fervour. Even the devotees are trying their best to make their Ganesh idol look as beautiful as possible. The small mandals are using various decorative materials to make their idol an innovative one.
At Shri Sai Darshan Mitra Mandal, an 80-kilo paper idol is glued with old coins that belong to 1940 to 1965. The visitors will see coins of 1 paisa, 10 paisa, 20 paisa on the idol.
Mahendra Shah, a member of the mandal, said, “The weight of the idol is around 250 kilos, including the 20 thousand coins glued on paper idol. We brought these coins from different areas in Maharashtra and Gujarat. Each coin had cost us around Rs 12 to Rs 15. The idol will be immersed along with the coins on 11thday.”
One of the mandals in Malad have used alphabet cubes to make the Ganesh idol. Speaking about the concept behind it, Vipul Sagar, secretary of Yuva Group Utsav Mandal, said, “We wanted to highlight the theme ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ due to which we have used 22,222 cubes which have alphabets on them.
