Cop’s initiative of making female inmates self-reliant
Utilising the expertise within the four walls of Central and other jails of the state, the women prisoners are being educated under the adult education programme of the Indira Gandhi National University (IGNU).
The children of the prison inmates are also imparted education to make them not only literate, but also responsible citizens. As a part of the prison reforms, the jail inmates are given an opportunity for skill development.This would enable them to earn their livelihood once their prison term was over.
Monika Agarwal, the deputy superintendent of prison of the women jail, has compassion for the women inmates.
She is much more than a khaki clad officer. She has painstaking taken the task of educating the women inmates and in the year 2016 she trained 31 inmates on basic literacy evaluation and was able to achieve 100 percent results.
She was recognised for her good work and was given the President’s Medal on the Independence Day by Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje at the official function in Jaipur.
