Eight security men martyred in J&K
Fidayeen terror revisited Kashmir on Saturday when a group of Jaish-e-Mohommad suicide attackers stormed the District Police Lines (DPL) in South Kashmir’s Pulwama, leaving four policemen and four CRPF personnel dead besides injuring six others. Three fidayeens, who had taken shelter in the residential quarters of the DPL, had been neutralized at the time of this report going to print. Security forces evacuated policemen and their families before launching the assault against the holed up fidayeens. Jaish-e-Mohammad has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The attack occurred at around 4 am, when a group of fidayeens surfaced at the rear end of the DPL and fired indiscriminately before barging into the complex. They later split and took up shelter in three residential blocks. Security forces rushed in reinforcements and cordoned off the buildings, however suffered casualties while evacuating policemen and their families, according to Dr Shesh Paul Vaid, Director General of Police (DGP), Jammu and Kashmir. Six men — four CRPF personnel, one J&K police constable and three Special Police Officers (SPOs) — were killed in the encounter, and six others were injured.
