Ram Chander dedicates victory to people
Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Bawana candidate Ram Chander, who defeated Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Ved Prakash with a big margin of 24,152 votes on Monday, dedicated his win to the people.
The 46-year-old MLA reached his makeshift office in the area on Monday soon after the result for Bawana by-election, held on August 23, was declared. “I want to work for the people who voted for me and my party. The major issues in this constituency include availability of potable water, besides proper roads and sewage system,” he said.
Chander had earlier fought from the seat in the 2008 Assembly elections on a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) ticket but lost.
While both BJP and Congress candidates belong to the old Bawana village, Chander belongs to the Shahbad Dairy area, a resettlement colony.
Talking about his poll strategy, Chander said: “During campaigning, my colleagues worked day and night in the village while I spent about a month in the unauthorised and other colonies of the area. We went door-to-door, asking people about their problems and assuring them that if voted to power, we will work to solve these problems. I will not let break people’s faith.”
