Sea-crets
The first time I saw her, I thought she was part of the large convoluted tree trunk that she was sitting on. She was perfectly still, just her dark brown dress and equally dark brown hair fluttering in the breeze. As I quietly moved from behind her, I saw that she had large eyes behind a pair of thick-rimmed spectacles. She was looking out into the sea, and from her absolute impassive expression, it seemed as though not a single thought was going on in her head. She was looking at the water, solely concentrating on it and nothing else.
I admit I was a bit surprised to see someone on this part of the beach so early in the morning. For the past several weeks, I had been the only one here to watch the sunrise.
I settled into my usual spot, which was a bamboo chair whose legs were now halfway into the sand. I brought out a small sachet of sweet mouth freshener and poured the contents into my mouth, savouring the taste as I watched the sun peek out from the clouds.
