Priyanka Chopra apologises for her Sikkim insurgency statement!
Priyanka Chopra’s recent interview at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) about her home production Sikkimese film Pahuna ended up with the actress facing a lot of backlash over her ‘insurgency’ comment. During the course of her conversation with the host, Priyanka ended up calling the region of Sikkim, “troubled by insurgency”.
This led to a lot of hate comments being hurled towards the actress. Several netizens called her out for not getting her facts in place and calling one of the most peaceful states of the country as troubled by insurgency. Priyanka had stated, “Sikkim is a small state in the North-east of India which never had a film industry or anyone who made films from the region. This is the first film ever that’s come out of that region, because it’s very troubled with insurgency and troubling situations…”
Post the massive backlash on social media, Priyanka Chopra gave an official apology to the tourism minister of Sikkim, Ugen Gyatso.
