BJP’s bid to cash in on religious tourism
If Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi went on a temple tour in poll-bound Gujarat; how could ‘the god’s own party’ be left behind. The BJP government at the centre has devised a plan to counter Rahul’s ‘soft Hindutva’.
While Rahul began his campaign by offering prayers at Dwarkadhish and followed it up by daily visits to temples during his Nav Srijan yatra last week in a state where Lord Krishna is a popular deity; Modi government has chalked out a plan to restore dilapidated Krishna temples in Gujarat and Rajasthan.
Working on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s idea, the list of temples on the Krishna circuit has been carefully prepared. These temples have religious sanctity and quite popular among devotees of Lord Krishna in both Gujarat and Rajasthan. Tourism department has released work order for the first phase of Rs 91crore plan for five temples in Rajasthan.
Three months ago funds were released for renovation of Govind Dev ji and other temples in the vicinity, Charan temple at Nahargarh, Srinath ji temple at Nathdwara, Galta ji and Khatu Shyam ji.
