Ex-Navy man steals BMW at knife-point
A retired Indian Navy officer has been arrested for posing as a Delhi Police officer and stealing a BMW car belonging to a businessman in South Delhi’s Mahipalpur area. The accused, Bharat Singh, had earlier attempted to steal cars by asking for lifts but when that modus operandi failed, he thought donning a police uniform might help him.
At 11.58 am on Tuesday, the police was informed about a BMW car being robbed at knife-point at Rangpuri roundabout near Radisson hotel at Mahipalpur. The victim, Khenchand, told the police that he works as a driver with Messrs Gupta HC Overseas Pvt Ltd, an Agra-based firm. In his statement, Khenchand said he had come to the Capital to drop his boss at Indira Gandhi International airport in a BMW X5 SUV (licence plate number UP-80-DZ-9292).
“After he dropped his boss, he had to drive to Gurugram for more work and drove the same car from the airport. As he was approaching Mahipalpur, a man wearing a Delhi Police officer’s uniform signalled him to stop,” said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, South, Chinmoy Biswas.
