In Rajasthan, BJP wins 3 of 5 seats
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) bagged three seats out of five in the results announced for the municipal by-elections in Rajasthan on Friday. Main Opposition Congress won the other two seats. Congress candidate Ikramuddin defeated Ashok Agarwal of BJP by 5,191 votes in the by-election of ward 76 of Jaipur Municipal Corporation.
Apart from JMC’s ward 76, the by-elections took place in Losal in Sikar district, Todabhim in Karauli district, Falna in Pali district, and Malpura municipality in Tonk district. In the results declared by the State Election Commission, the BJP won in Todabhim, Losal, and Falna. Congress won in Jaipur and Malpura. Two years ago, in the main urban body elections, Losal and Todabhim seats went to the account of independents.
This could mark BJP’s first win in Jaipur’s ward 76, but the couldn’t achieve the feat. After the death of former councillor Gulam Nabi, Congress had fielded Ikramuddin as the new candidate. He had a record victory, proving the party’s decision to put their faith in him correct. Ikramuddin secured 7,531 votes, while the BJP candidate secured only 2,340 votes.
