Tipu Sultan’s family threatens legal action against Union Minister Anant Hegde
Following the comments of Union minister Anant Kumar Hegde about Tipu Sultan, descendants of the 18th century ruler in Kolkata are likely to take legal action against him.
“I will send a legal notice against Hegde for his unfounded comments against Tipu Sultan. I was aghast to hear it last night. He was such a revered ruler who led life like a saint. I don’t know on what basis he had levelled such allegations,” talking to DNA on Sunday said Bakhtiar Ali, one of the sixth generation descendants of Prince Mooniruddin, one of the 12 sons of Tipu Sultan, who had been deported to Kolkata by the British. He said that Tipu was a national hero and it was not for nothing that he was called the ‘Tiger of Mysore’.
Another of the king’s descendants, Shahid Alam, who is also the secretary of Mysore Family Fund Committee and co-trustee of the waqf estate of Prince Golam Mohammad, named after another of Tipu’s sons, said that Hegde should tender an unconditional apology. “Tipu Sultan is known for his nationalistic views and contribution to the country.
