Rahul Gandhi takes a jibe at DeMo, GST moves at India Inc event
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday told India Inc that he will continue putting pressure on Modi government to simplify the Goods and Services Tax (GST). He also promised to give sufficient space to Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) in economic policy making once his party returns to government. Speaking at the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry here, he committed that the primary focus of the future Congress government would be to initiate adequate decentralisation of powers with enough youth representation in the policy making.
When he said there was an absolute concentration of power in the sole hand of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a businessman in the audience shot back saying that the power was concentrated in 10 Janpath (Sonia Gandhi) during the UPA rule. Rahul refuted the charge and promised to distribute power if elected. He also told the business community that no amount of growth is enough unless it creates jobs, and that is possible only from MSME who get no bank credit despite accounting for 40 per cent of production and 80 per cent of non-agricultural employment. He said the only force capable of meeting the Chinese economic challenge is MSME sector.
