Rejected lover burns 22-yr-old in her home
A 22-year-old woman engineering graduate was burnt alive on Monday night allegedly by a spurned lover in her home in the city’s Adambakkam. Her mother and sister sustained severe burn injuries when they tried to save her.
According to the police, S Indhuja who was working in an IT company, died after being admitted to Kilpauk Medical College hospital while her mother Renuka and younger sister Nivedhika are in critical condition after suffering 50 per cent and 20 per cent burn injuries.
The accused Akash Muthukumar (25) who tried to escape was arrested by the police on Tuesday morning. Akash, a college dropout, is known to Indhuja’s family as he lives in the same locality Saraswathi Nagar at Adambakkam and he often makes casual visits to their house, police said.
After being rejected by Indhuja, Akash started stalking her, the police said. Indhuja quit her job because of the continuous stalking. According to police, Akash claimed he was in a relationship with Indhuja and they had plans to marry.
