New trailers: The Incredibles 2, A Wrinkle in Time, and more
HBO’s The Deuce was one of my favorite new series this year. It wrapped up about a month ago, but I missed the finale by a week because I didn’t feel compelled to watch it right away — I assumed there were going to be more episodes, since the show was only seven episodes in and nowhere near a climax.
There’s a lot to like about the series, but the thing that stands out most to me is the absolute weirdest thing about it: how casually everything moves along, how little build-up and tension there is, and how the season just ended right as everything was starting to get interesting.
On one hand, I wonder if our trained need for a season to end on a climactic note is maybe just some ridiculous notion we should rid ourselves of, especially now…
