Baby falls through gap in box grill, dies
In a tragic accident, 14-month-old boy fell from the second floor of a building in Byculla, to his death. The child was apparently playing near the window and slipped through the gap in the box grill meant for drying clothes. Byculla police have registered a case of accidental death and are probing the case from all angles.
According to them, Mikayan Athanawala was playing inside the bedroom of his family’s second floor apartment at Victoria Terrace 3 at Sant Savta Mali Marg, Byculla (east) on Wednesday. At around 3.30 pm, he supposedly climbed onto the window from the bed placed nearby and fell through the grill. Mikayan was rushed to Bombay Hospital but succumbed to his injuries on Thursday.
In his police statement, Hamza Athanawala, the father, claimed that the mother was not inside the bedroom.
“The boy first fell from second floor window and landed on the awning of the window on the first floor.
