Nephrology congress begins in city today
The Indian Society of Nephrology (ISN) is organising the 48th Annual Congress of the Indian Society of Nephrology (ISNCON 2017) from December 14 to 17. The conference will have a comprehensive discussion on the latest developments and trends in the field of nephrology, dialysis, and transplant.
Statistics indicate that 1 in 10 persons in the general population is estimated to have some form of chronic kidney disorder (CKD). Nearly 175,000 new people have kidney failure every year in India and require dialysis or kidney transplant.
Dr Sanjeev Gulati, nephrologist, Fortis Hospital, Vasant Kunj, said certain other kidney disorders, such as glomerulonephritis (which is the third most common kind of kidney disorder), polycystic kidney disease, and lupus, can cause damage to kidneys’ filtering units and also affect the body’s immune system adversely.
“ISNCON 2017 will surely prove to be a good platform to learn, interact, and support educational and research activity in the field of clinical nephrology. This conference will have international and national stalwart nephrologists and experienced speakers to further enrich our knowledge,” he said.
