Both BJP, Cong claim victory in panchayat polls
Even though village panchayat elections are not contested on any party symbols, both the BJP and Congress claimed allegiance of majority of the winners.
Within hours of the village panchayat election results being announced, the BJP claimed that around 75 to 80% of the winning sarpanchs and other village panchayat members were supported by it. The party also thanked voters for accepting its pro-development agenda. The party said in a statement that amid attempts by Congress to spread negativity in the elections, 292 villages had opted to select a sarpanch unanimously, which showed trust in the government’s policies.
BJP also said that its candidates were elected unanimously in all 28 seats of Jaffrabad Municipality, and that it had also won in several other seats.
