Shopian firing: SC agrees to hear Major Aditya’s father’s plea, matter to be heard on Monday
Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear plea by father of Army Major Aditya Kumar, seeking quashing of FIR against his son in connection with the Shopian firing.
According to reports, the apex court has agreed to hear the plea and the matter has been listed for Monday, February 12. 3 civilians were killed in Shopian firing. The issue has polarised the already volatile political firmament in J&K. Where PDP has defended the FIR, ally BJP has strongly opposed it. NC on the other hand, has demanded strong action against the accused officer.
Lieutenant Colonel Karamveer Singh earlier said his son, a Major in the 10 Garhwal Rifles, has been “wrongly and arbitrarily” named in the FIR as the incident relates to an Army convoy on bonafide military duty in an area under the AFSPA, which was isolated by an “unruly and deranged” mob pelting stones causing damage to military vehicles. The plea, filed through advocate Aishwarya Bhati, said the intention of his son was to save Army personnel and property and the fire was inflicted “only to impair and provide a safe escape from a savage and violent mob engaged in terrorist activity”.
