Rachel Weisz is not keen on idea of female James Bond
Sure Daniel Craig is returning to play James Bond one more time for untitled 25th 007 movie. But his earlier intentions had people speculating about the new face to take over as Ian Fleming’s character. There were also demands made by stars in Hollywood asking for the character be gender-swapped.
But if you ask Rachel Weisz – Hollywood star in her own right and wife of Craig – she is not keen on women taking on the role and has her reasons to justify the thought.
In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, Weisz said that creator Ian Fleming “devoted an awful lot of time to writing this particular character, who is particularly male and relates in a particular way to women”.
“Why not create your own story rather than jumping on to the shoulders and being compared to all those other male predecessors?
“Women are really fascinating and interesting and should get their own stories,” the actress said.
Weisz’s comments follow those of Dame Judi Dench. She too is not sold on the idea of women playing the character.
Dench, who played MI6 boss M in Bond movies, told The Sun, “I think it should be a man. But who knows.”
