Delay in blood transfusion kills 3-yr-old
In a fresh case of medical negligence, the staff at the Lok Nayak Hospital has been accused of a delay in providing blood to a three-year-old girl, which resulted in her death, late on Tuesday night.
According to the family, Humaira was brought to the hospital in time but had to wait for hours for transfusion. The child died minutes after the blood reached the ward.
The child was a case of severe anemia and was rushed to Chacha Nehru Bal Chikitsalaya, where she was refused admission. She was later brought to Lok Nayak Hospital at 8 pm on Tuesday where the doctors said that she needed transfusion immediately.
“I got blood issued from the blood bank at 10 pm and was told that it will be handed over to the ward boy. It took the ward boy two hours to get the blood from the next building,” said Javed, Humaira’s father, in a video released by the family.
He also alleged that the ward boy was under the influence of alcohol and was slow even in the hour of crisis. “We have been trying to register a complaint, but the police personnel here are refusing to do so,” he said in the video. …read more
