JNU protests: 2 FIRs against the students
The Delhi Police have registered two separate cases against the students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
The first case was registered on allegations that the students had confined two rectors at the administrative block illegally while protesting against the compulsory attendance rule. The second case has been registered for blocking the way leading to the administrative block, and assembling at the location unlawfully. The JNU Student’s Union (JNUSU) has been denying the allegations.
It has also been alleged that the students got into a scuffle with two rectors and some professors and assaulted them.
According to police, they got a call from the security office of the University informing them about the ruckus.
However, by the time police arrived, the matter had been settled. On Friday morning, following a written complaint from the two rectors, Rector I Chintamani Mahapatra and Rector III Rana Singh, an FIR was lodged.
“A case has been registered against illegal confinement based on the complaint. The matter is being probed. Students and other staff are being questioned,” said a senior police officer.
