Gujarat: Jignesh Mevani released by police; meets family of Bhanubhai Vankar
Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani was released by police on Sunday evening and immediately rushed to Gandhinagar civil Hospital to meet the family members of Bhanubhai Vanakar who set himself on fire on Thursday.
Earlier, members of the Dalit community took out candle march at Gandhinagar civil hospital to protest Vanakar’s death. Earlier in the day, Vankar’s family agreed to take the body for a funeral and the state government has assured all that the family will get all support
Protesters blocked roads and held rallies in several parts of Gujarat on Sundayday, including capital Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, and Patan in Mehsana district against the failure of the authorities concerned to prevent suicide by Dalit activist Bhanubhai Vanakar on Friday, police said.
The protests were held after police detained Dalit leader and independent MLA Jignesh Mevani, and over 70 others, in Saraspur area of Ahmedabad this morning when they tried to stage demonstrations over Vanakar’s death.
