AAP government set to revive ‘rent-a-bike’ scheme
Delhiites will soon be able to rent a bike to move around the Capital on weekends as well as to commute to work, as the Delhi government is all set to revive the “rent-a-bike”. The scheme has already got proposals from dealers.
The move also aims to decongest the city, reduce the usage of four-wheelers and boost the last mile connectivity, particularly for women. The AAP government took a cue from cities like Goa, Bengaluru and Gurugram, where the scheme has been a success.
The scheme, sources said, will be revamped and is at present in a “pre-mature” stage.
“The department had received proposals from some operators. However, it will be worked upon to ensure safety. The aim is to provide enhanced mobility and decongest the city. The scheme has been a hit in places like Goa, which have a heavy footfall of tourists through the year. However, Delhi has different dynamics and it has to be experimented with,” a senior officer said.
The government had prepared a draft in which it was specified that dealers applying for the scheme must have a minimum of five motorcycles.
