Police starts helpline for students studying outside J&K
Concerned about the increase in the attacks on Kashmiri students studying outside the state, J-K police has established a round the clock helpline for the students studying in different parts of the country.
A police spokesperson said that a helpline for the students, studying outside the valley has been established in the Police control Room (PCR) Kashmir.
“To address various issues pertaining to students of valley undergoing studies in various educational and technical institutions of the country, a police helpline has been established,” he said.
The spokesperson has asked the students to register their complaints/grievances on the helpline, which will remain operational round the clock in the PCR.
Sources in the police said that the decision to establish the control room was taken after several incidents came into fore, where students studying in different colleges and universities outside the state were attacked or harassed.
There have been several incidents in the past, where Kashmiri students were injured in the attacks allegedly by the local students during the scuffles.
Eight students from Kashmir Valley were injured in December last year, when a scuffle broke out between two groups of students of Global Research Institute for Management and Technology in Haryana. Authorities had to close the college for a week following the scuffle.
In August, last year dozens of students enrolled at Swami Parmanand College of Engineering and Technology at Lalru Mohali returned to the Valley after the students were allegedly beaten by local Bharatiya Janta Party workers.
