This American actress first made her acquaintance with Indian audiences when she essayed the role of a journalist, Meneka in Abhinay Deo’s black comedy, ‘Delhi Belly’ along with Imran Khan, Vir Das and Kunaal Roy Kapur.

And when Poorna is not creating magic on screen, the actress who is known to be a champion of women’s rights, has been fighting hard to make this world a better place for women all over.
Deeply shaken by the horrific rape and murder of a 23-year old girl in a moving bus in Delhi on December 16, 2012, Jagannathan initiated and co-produced a play called, ‘Nirbhaya’, meaning ‘Fearless’, a name given to the victim. Written and directed by Yael Farber, ‘Nirbhaya’ explores the depth of sexual violence against women, inter-weaving personal testimonies and bearing witness to the incredible strength of the human spirit.
Poorna along with celebrity hair stylist Sapna Bhavnani, Priyanka Bose, Sneha Jawale and Rukhsar Kabir, forms the main cast of the play.
‘Nirbhaya’ premiered at the prestigious Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the largest arts festival in the world, in August 2013. It won the coveted Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award given to an outstanding Fringe production, which raises awareness of human rights. It also won the Scotsman Fringe First and the Herald Angel Award for Outstanding New Play.
Returning to her onscreen career, Poorna is starring in HBO’s upcoming miniseries, ‘Crime’. The show will revolve around a Pakistani man accused of murdering a girl in New York City, but unable to recall the incident.
Few are aware that Poorna is a daughter of a diplomat and was born in Tunis, Tunisia. Brought up in Pakistan, Ireland, Brazil and Argentina, Jagannathan graduated in journalism from the University of Maryland, College Park.
Known to have an incredible and unique sense of style, Poorna has graced several fashion magazines and made it to quite a few well-dressed lists.
