Hummer horror: Advisory board recommends beedi tycon to be detained for 6 months

Nisham had fatally rammed his hummer SUV into a security guard at Sobha City in Thrissur on January 29.

An advisory board constituted by the government on Monday recommended that controversial businessman Muhammed Nisham should be lodged in jail for six months as per various provisions under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities Prevention Act.

The act, which came into effect in 2006, was meant to contain goons and anti-social elements, who repeatedly commit offences.

Nisham had fatally rammed his hummer SUV into a security guard at Sobha City in Thrissur on January 29. The guard later died and the beedi tycoon is now facing murder charges. Apart from that, he had been involved in 10 other cases in Kerala and two in Bangalore.

The district-level advisory board, headed collector M S Jaya, on Monday decided that Nisham, a habitual offender, should be detained for next six months. Accordingly, even if he gets bail in the murder case and police fail to chargesheet within 90 days, Nisham would have to stay in jail.

In Kerala, he would be the first businessman to go remain behind bars as per the Kerala Anti-Social Activities Prevention Act. Normally, the act is applied on bootleggers, hawala racketeers and other offenders.
