Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Aamir Khan: Actors look to ‘box’ and ‘fight’ their way to success
Till now, the lead actors have taken to hockey, cricket and football, and now, the filmmakers have turned towards boxing and wrestling to be the main theme of their movies.
Fads and trends are a way of Bollywood, more so, with actors taking up a certain kind of roles. Last year, female-centric movies were all over Bollywood with Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut and Alia Bhatt taking up the mantle in ‘Mary Kom’, ‘Queen’ and ‘Highway’ and making the actors run for their money.
The lead actors too have followed the trend to turn sportspersons for their movies. Till now, they have taken to hockey, cricket and football, and now, the filmmakers have turned towards boxing and wrestling to be the main theme of their movies.
We, recently, reported that Salman Khan can have Karan Johar’s ‘Shuddhi’ delayed if he takes up Yash Raj Films’ ‘Sultan’. He is slated to play a 40-year-old boxer in the movie, being directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. It’s also being said that out of the two roles he is playing in Sooraj Barjatya’s ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’, one is of a street fighter. Salman’s good friend Aamir Khan has turned wrestler for his next ‘Dangal’, in which he sports a salt ‘n’ pepper look. He has even beefed up a little for the role. The superstar is, reportedly, sporting three different looks for the movie, which is based on the life of Mahavir Phogat. Aamir Khan will play father to four daughters in the movie.
Salman’s another friend Akshay Kumar is also playing a boxer in the upcoming drama ‘Brothers’, whose first official poster was revealed only yesterday. Akshay sports a rugged look in the movie and being a trained martial arts performer himself, would have suited the bill perfectly. The actor, reportedly, lost oodles of weight for the venture.
Akshay Kumar’s co-star in ‘Brothers’ – Sidharth Malhotra – is again playing a dark character (after the success of ‘Ek Villain’). Bearded and beefed up, Sidharth looks a stark contrast to his earlier roles, including Guru of ‘Ek Villain’. (Also read – Revealed: Akshay Kumar, Sidharth Malhotra’s look in and as ‘Brothers’)
Bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor has also turned street fighter for his next venture, Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Bombay Velvet’. He plays Johnny Balraj and looks mighty dangerous in the first look that was released last month.
