Six members of a family found dead
A 26- year old unemployed youth in Bangalore is suspected to have killed his parents and three sisters by feeding them poison before committing suicide at the family’s residence at the MPM Layout near the Bangalore University in West Bangalore.
The incident came to light on Thursday after neighbours complained of a foul smell emanating from the family’s house. The deaths are suspected to have occurred after Tuesday night since neighbours have reported seeing the family that evening.
The have been identified as Gangahanumaiah, 57, a telephone mechanic with BSNL, his wife Jayalakshmi, 54, and daughters Hemalatha, 30, Vimala, 28, Nethravathi, 24 and son Yathish, 26. The motive behind the suspected killings and suicide is not known, local police said.
The eldest daughter Hemalatha was working as a consultant with an IT firm, the second was working as a Junior Engineer with the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) and Nethravathi was studying for a engineering degree in the Dr BR Ambedkar Institute of Technology.

Police suspect the son Yathish to have mixed poison in the food of the others on Tuesday night. The bodies of the parents and sisters were found in sleeping positions in the house while that of the son was was found hanging.
Yathish committed suicide after the death his family members, police said. He opened the door of the house for a maid Kasturi on Wednesday morning and told her that her services were no longer required. The maid went away but returned on Thursday morning and found the door locked from the inside.
When repeated ringing of the door bell yielded no response the maid informed neighbours, police said. Neighbors who managed to open some windows of the house found a bad smell coming inside informed the police. The police rushed to the scene and broke open the door and found the six dead persons. No death note was found at the crime scene.
The police suspect Yathish who was suffering from depression to be responsible for the deaths “We are not sure about the reason for the deaths. We suspect Yathish’s depression could be a reason ,” additional commissioner of police (law and order) Alok Kumar said. Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) officials collected samples from the crime scene for testing. Police are also waiting an autopsy report to ascertain the exact cause of the deaths.
