Prosecutors are requesting a judge to set record producer Suge Knight’s bail at USD 25 million in his fatal hit-and-run case which killed Terry Carter.
According to a motion, filed by Deputy District Attorney Cynthia Barnes, 31 incidents of 49-year-old Suge’s violent history since 2004 has been cited, reported Ace Showbiz.
According to the motion, Suge is accused of threatening others or using violence, including threats he made about upcoming movie “Straight Outta Compton”. The motion also alleged the music mogul has been involved in money laundering and extortion schemes targeting up-and-coming rappers in the past few years.
Suge allegedly has been involved in an extortion scheme that has netted for more than USD 10 million.
“Apparently when a new artist or rapper comes to either Los Angeles or Las Vegas, he is required to pay a ‘tax’ to defendant Knight,” the motion said.
Cynthia said that Suge was scheduled to appear in Judge Ronald S Coen’s downtown courtroom for a bail review hearing, where prosecutors will argue for the USD 25 million bond.
While Suge is being held without bail, prosecutors argue it because no special circumstance allegations have been filed against him.
According to prosecutors, setting such a high bail would “protect the public from defendant Knight.”
Prosecutors claimed that at the time of the fatal hit-and-run incident occurred, Suge was out on bail in the case of camera robbery.
Suge’s attorney Matthew Fletcher hasn’t commented on the issue yet.
