Devendra Fadnavis
Condemning the recent attack on a church in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday asked officials to take strict action and severely punish those behind the incident.
Talking to reporters, a day after three unidentified persons attacked St George Church in Navi Mumbai, Fadnavis said, “Anybody indulging in any act of targeting the religious places to disturb the communal harmony in society will be crushed. The attack on the church is a shameful act. Such action cannot be tolerated in any civilized state.”
“I have issued clear directives to the top police officials to ruthlessly deal with such individuals who are fomenting trouble in the society in the name of religion or displaying any social or religious prejudices against any sections or community,” added Fadnavis.
The incident, which took place around 1.30 am Saturday, was captured on CCTV cameras in the church premises. An FIR has been registered against the unidentified persons.
Sources in the home department said, “The CCTV footage has proved useful in identifying the individuals who had covered their faces with a mask. The CCTV images are going to help in making the arrests of these individuals soon.”
