NC MLA Rana had called Speaker Kavinder Gupta a “Hindu Speaker” and “BJP Speaker”.
BJP-PDP members from the treasury benches on Wednesday disrupted question hour in the J&K Assembly for nearly 15 minutes as they pressed for expulsion of a National Conference legislator Javed Rana for his remarks against the Speaker.
Rana, while staging a walkout from the House before Finance Minister’s reply on budget discussion on Tuesday, had called Speaker Kavinder Gupta a “Hindu Speaker” and “BJP Speaker”.

As the House assembled on Wednesday morning, members from treasury benches taking strong exception to Rana’s remarks against the Speaker, rushed to the well of the House demanding action against him. “I have moved a resolution under Rule 411 of the Rules of Procedure of the House in the matter seeking expulsion of the member for rest of the budget session,” said BJP legislator Sat Sharma.
The members on the Opposition benches including M Y Tarigami (CPI-M) and Nawang Rigzin Jora (Congress) also criticized the remarks by Rana and supported the demand for action.
However, the Speaker persuaded the agitating members to take their seats and resumed question hour.
