Big B, Deepika’s Piku’ trailer captures the essence of father-daughter relationship
Though ‘Piku’ trailer seems to be intertwined with emotions, it promises not to take the fun out of the ride and is in fact absolutely hilarious.
Movie lovers are in for quite a treat this summer – having three major Bollywood talents – megastar Amitabh Bachchan, dimpled beauty Deepika Padukone and the versatile Irrfan Khan will grace the screen together in Shoojit Sircar’s ‘Piku’. The first trailer of the comedy drama is out and by the looks of it, seems like it is all set to woo audiences.
The trailer beautifully captures the ups and downs of a father-daughter relationship and highlights that patience, and love is key when it comes to caring for the elderly. However, though it seems to be intertwined with emotions, it promises not to take the fun out of the ride and is in fact absolutely hilarious.
Most of her roles in the past have had Deepika looking over-the-top when it comes to wardrobe, hair and makeup. This is the first time that the beauty has shed the glam, looking absolutely lovely nonetheless as she plays the dutiful, responsible and patient daughter to her ‘ninety-year-old son’.

‘PIku’ is a film, which also portrays the strength of a young woman, handling a full-time job, responsibilities at home and being the sole rock supporting and shouldering the task of looking after her father. It recognises and celebrates the multitasking that women in society undertake effortlessly on a daily basis.
The unconventional pairing of Irrfan Khan and Deepika Padukone is a treat to watch. The actor plays somewhat of a mediator between the father and the daughter, especially in their tussles. Though he seems to wonder if he’s stuck between them, his fondness for not just ‘Piku’, but also her father slowly comes about as he journeys with them.
Though the film is primarily about Piku and her father in the City of Joy, Kolkata, the issue about ‘constipation and motions’ seems to be the main theme. The jokes and one-liners are hilarious and the constant reference to problems of the digestive system makes for quite a few laughs, especially the philosophy that ‘Emotion is related to motion’.
‘Piku’ hits screens on May 8.
A few clelebrities took to Twitter to express their approval of the trailer including Deepika’s boyfriend Ranveer Singh, close friend and director Karan Johar and Ayushmann Khurrana.
